My Birth Kit is Here!

birth kit

Happy Birthday to me!  I’m 33 today, and my birth kit arrived this morning from In His Hands Birth Supply!  It was really simple to do- I just searched the site for my midwife’s name, and I ordered the kit she prefers.  It arrived quickly too, since I ordered it on Monday afternoon!

In case you are wondering what is in a birth kit, this box contains:

I’ve still got to go thrifting for sheets and towels, and make up some meals for my freezer.   Oh, and get the baby some CLOTHES because I haven’t done that yet.  And the birth pool isn’t here yet…

But we are definitely getting closer!

Oh!  I went back to the midwife today to check blood pressure/urine and it was perfect!  Yay!  I was so anxious about that.  I sent a short message last night about refusing the scan/weight check, but I didn’t talk to my midwife today.

I didn’t see her until I was leaving and I got flustered and anxious and made excuses to leave.  Childish of me, I know, but I’m just feeling really stressed out this week and I am so bad at explaining myself/dealing with the possibility of confrontation under even the best of circumstances that I chickened out.

So all of that is done with for now, and I’m going to go hang out with my kids.  I might go get some cupcakes later and stick a candle in one for my birthday.

  1. Brilliant! I’m so excited for you! Will she bring her own kit for if you need to be sutured or will you need to transfer to hospital for that? My midwife would do first or straightforward second degree tears but complex or anything further and she’d transfer. Thankfully it wasn’t necessary!

I hope you have a lovely home birth. I had a natural HBAC in the water 16 months ago and it was the best decision I ever made. xx

    • She’ll bring her own kit and supplies as well, of course! She is a CNM and can take care of most of the things that might happen. Since this is my fifth birth and I only tore for the first one, I am hoping I won’t need any stitches! *fingers crossed*

  2. Happy Birthday!

Are you comfortable with getting supplies from a Christian supply place? Is your midwife religious? I can’t seem to find any reviews on them…

    • Yeah it didn’t bother me. Supplies are supplies and a lot of my birthy friends have used this company. I thought the birth prayer included inside was a bit funny though.

  3. Hey Joni! Congrats on fulfilling the Indie Go Go fundraising for your home birth a while back and I look forward to hearing about your birth at some point. I hope you are well. :)

  4. Thats where I got mine from! I was SO happy when I got it.! I had contemplated just going to hospital to “make things easier” as everyone else had put it. I got physically sick from the stress of thinking about going.. and when I ordered my birth kit, and made the decision to stay home…. thats it, I felt great and I couldn’t wait! He’s my first though, so I was VERY nervous! LOL! Everything went great, and He’s 15mo now =D You will do amazing! So happy for you! <3 <3 <3
