Rockin Green Soap Rocks!

I’ve started getting offers for free stuff if I do reviews, but I don’t review products on my blog.  I have no interest in monetizing this site and I don’t advertise at all except for a few friends that I think need props for their awesome stuff.  I have a blog because I love to write and it makes me happy to know that so many people enjoy it when I do.  I want to write books that actually get published (oh please!  I hope this happens someday!) and this is my way of practicing my craft every day.

So *if* I talk about a product, you can rest assured it is something I want to share with you because I LOVE it.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Today I want to talk about Rockin Green Soap.

We use clothdiapers on our babies.  I love them for all sorts of reasons, but there is just nothing cuter than a little clothdiapered bum.

See?  Totally Cute.

I have FOUR children.  One of which was exclusively in disposable diapers.  The other babies wore ‘sposies occasionally. I bought the expensive brands, the ones that offer “anti leak locking blah blah blah technology” and EVERY time they would leak.  There would be poo-splosions.  I would have to carry several changes of clothing whenever we left the house.  And then there are the rashes.  In cloth we do not have these problems.

I also love that we aren’t throwing them away.  Our landfills are CLOGGED with 7.6 billion pounds of diapers a year discarded in the U.S. alone.  It feels good to know we aren’t contributing to the overfilled and cluttered landfills.  We use cloth towels, napkins, and tissues.  We compost, recycle everything recyclable, and freecycle what we can.  Why on earth would we then want to throw disposable diaper chemical filled plastic poop bombs into our trash?

A friend recently sent me a big box of diapers after her daughter graduated to the potty (can I just say I adore my twitter friends?) and even though they smelled and looked clean I decided to “rock a soak” on them.  I wanted to show you what the soaking water looks like on seemingly “clean” diapers.

This is thirty minutes after I set them to soak.

To Rock a Soak:

1. ) Fill your washer with hot water and 3 Tbsp* of Rockin’ Green, along with your diapers.

2. ) Let it soak for approximately 30-60 minutes. Then launder as usual, skipping the soap.

*If you have soft water, you may need less detergent than that indicated. So start with 1 tbs, and go up from there as needed.

Rocking a soak is a great way to get residue and “funk” out of your diapers.  I originally switched to Rockin Green because Cooper’s clothdiapers were getting stinky.  I had gotten lackadaisical when adding soap to the wash.  I had begun eyeballing the measurements and just dumping it in…  And within few cycles there was stink aplenty.

We’ve been using Rockin Green Soap for over six months now, and it is the ONLY soap I will use on our clothdiapers.  I’ve tried others, and there isn’t really a comparison.  I even use it around the house- I’ve have it mixed with water in a spray bottle because it is fantastic for getting stains out of my carpets.  I also use the “Shake it up” diaper pail freshener.  I sprinkle it in our diaper pail and our trash cans.

I love that RG is free of dyes, enzymes, whiteners and brighteners. So you know that it is safe for all diapers. The scented version does contain natural fragrances- but there is an unscented one as well.   I love the scents they use…  My favorite is “Rage Against the Raspberries”.  All of the scents are very light- we don’t use perfumed personal or cleaning products in our home, so we have become very sensitive to smells, and no one has a problem with this soap.

The Giveaway:

Rockin Green Soap has generously offered to give a 45/90 load bag of detergent in the winner’s choice of scent/formula!

To enter:

I’m not a fan of complicated entry rules… So if you would like to enter, visit Rockin Green Soap and leave me a comment on my blog telling me what your choice of scent would be if you won.

If you decided to follow me on twitter, facebook, rss feed, or share this post with your friends that would be super cool (because it makes me happy when people read my blog and my stats go up) but it isn’t necessary to win the giveaway.

The giveaway closes 12am EST on February 25th, 2011.  I will choose a randomly selected comment to win at that time.

I don’t even have kids and I kinda want to try this stuff. I’m all over natural products, they’re just better, and this sounds like it’s right up my alley.

I use laundromats so I’m gonna say the Classic Rock, in Lavender Mint Revival because, seriously, two of my favourite scents.

Ooooh, I’m about to start CD and would love some Rockin’ Green. The Green Tea sounds yummy but since I’ve got a newborn and a toddler with sensitive skin I might have to say Bare Naked Babies.

Also, can I ask a CD question? Do you use/recommend any one size diapers? I got a bunch of prefolds as gift that I plan on using for the majority of my diapering but am thinking an AIO/pocket might be better for over night or when daddy is on diaper duty. Have you used Charlie Banana?

THANKS!

Hi Sharon,

My all time favorite diapers are Bumgenius One size diapers… They are seriously awesome and easy to use. I have been using the same diapers since Cooper was two months old and they still look new!

I’ve got a cloth diapered 7 month old and have yet to try Rockin Green but I hear wonderful things about it! All of the scents sound awesome, but I’m a big fan of all things lavender so I’d probably go with the lavender mint :)

I would love to try this soap. I’ve ne’er used it and my girl is way out of diapers ;) so it would be for those bladghasted eternal stains she seems to get on everything. I also am secretly dying to try it in the carpet steamer!
I’d like smashing watermelon.

It’s hard because all the Rockin Green scents are so yummy, but I would say probably Smashing Watermelons would be my choice!

I would pick Motley Clean!!! LOVE it!! I used to use free and clear soaps on my diapers and they left residues and began to stink. A friend of mine recommended Rocking Green and I will never use anything else!! It leaves my diapers clean and soft! I’m going to try your tip fr cleaning the carpets with it!!!

[Reply]

Joni Rae Reply:

Yes! I did the same- I used All Free and Clear for years, with no stink issues (I was using barely a tablespoon in the wash and rinsing tons). But I started getting lazy with my measuring, and the dipes got stinky! Rockin Green was the only thing that fixed it.

Unscented. Cause I gots a baby wiTh a sensitive butt.

I use charlies but I keep considering making the switch.

I dig the Marshmallow scent. It’s light and refreshingly sweet, not over powering like a Glade candle or the like…

I’ve been CD’ing exclusively for 11 months now. Can’t believe I ever used a ‘sposie on kiddo #1. Found RG when kiddo #2 was about 3 mo and I’ve yet to use anything else.

Dig your blog, new to it…you have converted me into a fan :-)

I am very excited to try rng!!! We’ve got some funky stinky towels and I’d love to get them funky free!!

I’d go with Lavendar/Mint or BNB :)
